BLS Instructor
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Instructors teach lifesaving CPR, AED and first aid courses for the medical and nonmedical communities. Although BLS Instructors are not required to have a medical background to teach, most instructors are in a healthcare field. BLS instructors can teach BLS for Healthcare Providers and all Heartsaver courses. Instructor cards are available exclusively to authorized Training Centers for Issuance in accordance with AHA Policy.

To qualify as an instructor:

  • Students must have current AHA provider status in the discipline of the Instructor Course, and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Disciplines include ACLS, BLS, PALS, PEARS® and Heartsaver®.
  • Students must successfully complete the discipline-specific Instructor Essentials online course, and print the course completion certificate.
  • Students must successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
  • Student must successfully be monitored teaching their first course within six months after completing the Instructor Course.

Once you become an Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network. You will also be able to post class dates and times to reach more students through our public website.

Heartsaver Instructor
Heartsaver Instructors teach lifesaving CPR, AED, and first aid courses for the nonmedical community. Heartsaver Instructors are not required to have a medical background to teach.

  • Students must have current AHA Heartsaver® provider status.
  • Students must successfully complete the discipline-specific Instructor Essentials online course, and print the course completion certificate.
  • Students must successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
  • Student must successfully be monitored teaching their first course within six months after completing the Instructor Course.
